The Chair of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy, including Forest History, is focused on empirical-analytical policy analysis in key issues of forestry and nature conservation.

Subjects of the analysis are public and private stake holders, policy instruments and the processes of policy formulation, implementation and evaluation. The analyses deal with local, regional, national and international levels of politics but primarily with Germany, Eastern Europe and developing countries.

The analysis of forest history links policy analysis with the historical process of the sustainable use of the forest.
