The Master’s programme "Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnologiy and Biochemistry (M.Sc.) “ is held in the English language and comprises the four subject areas "General and Applied Microbiology“, "Molecular Genetics and Microbial Cell Biology", "Biochemistry and Molecular Structure Biology“ as well as "Cell and Molecular Biology of Plant-Microbe-Interactions“. The lectures with introductory internships and consecutive individual research projects convey special knowledge of microbiology as well as on current issues in molecular biology and biochemistry. These are researched with the help of the most modern procedures and using a variety of bacterial, fungal and plant model organisms.
The research-oriented Master’s programme "Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnologiy and Biochemistry (M.Sc.) “ is four semesters long and typically follows a Bachelor’s programme in Biology/Biosciences. 120 ECTS points are earned during the modularized programme. Fundamental knowledge of the subject and its methods are first conveyed in subject, profile and in-depth modules. Competence modules additionally convey further occupational qualifying key competencies. In the fourth semester, the six-week Master’s thesis is written in which the students are required to work independently and scientifically. The students are responsible for their individual work on a scientific topic usually embedded in third-party funded projects. The programme is conducted in an active, research environment with high international standing.
The Master’s examination leads to a degree qualifying graduates for occupational and research opportunities. It especially qualifies students for a PhD programme and later on for occupational opportunities in the field of biosciences.
