Finding a balance between academic/student/professional life and family life presents parents with a considerable challenge in many respects. With the aim of improving the compatibility of academia/university studies/career with the family situation, the University of Göttingen set up a family service at the Equal Opportunities Office on 1 October 2009.

The Family Service is the contact point for discussion and consultation, offering

parents:


• advice on questions concerning the combining of academic/student/professional life with family life


• information and support in the search for suitable child care


• information on family-friendly working arrangements, e.g. telework


• assistance on issues before and after the birth of your child,

and university institutions:


• information on family-friendly working arrangements e.g. telework


• coordination and expansion of family-friendly working arrangements, e.g. childcare during meetings, workshops and conferences at the university and emergency childcare


• evaluation of the family-friendly arrangements available


• further development of family-friendly structures at the University of Göttingen.
