The Master’s degree is awarded after an advanced programme which requires a prior pertinent Bachelor’s degree. In certain cases, comparable achievements accomplished in a programme dealing with a different discipline can be recognised as a qualification for entry. The duration of study is usually four semesters.
Apart from consecutive Master’s programmes which build upon a Bachelor’s programme with regard to the subject matter and form its in-depth continuation, there are non-consecutive Master’s programmes as well as Master’s programmes for people with at least one year’s professional experience wishing to obtain further qualification.
The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is awarded after the completion of an academic programme in the Humanities or the Social Sciences. The Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree is awarded after the completion of an academic programme in the Natural Sciences, Forestry, the Agricultural Sciences, or the Geosciences.
