Study programs for Protestant Theology:


Protestant Theology (degree for pastoral ministry)


  • 9 semesters Theology plus 2/3 semesters Latin, Greek and Hebrew

  • Occupational goals: pastor; for additional work opportunities please see below under “diploma”



Protestant Theology (Diploma)


  • 9 semesters Theology plus 2/3 semesters Latin, Greek and Hebrew

  • Occupational goals: occupations within the church (e.g. adult education, media); academic teaching and research; occupations outside the church (e.g. human resources, consultancy, professional training, media, public relations, marketing, museums etc.)



Study programs for a teaching profession:

Protestant Religion B.A. (2 subjects)


  • 6 semesters Theology and Religious Education in addition to a second subject and classes in Educational Theory

  • Combination with a second subject: German, English, French, Latin, Spanish or Mathematics

  • The B.A. is requirement for admission to the Master of Education



Protestant Religion (Master of Education)


  • 4 semesters Theology and Religious Education in addition to a second subject and classes in Educational Theory

  • For possible second subjects see above under the B.A.

  • Occupational goals: teaching profession for Gymnasium (Sek. I and II); further possibilities, depending on the combination of subjects, please see under „diploma“



Values and Norms B.A. (2 subjects)


  • Content of program is a combination of different faculties: Religious Studies/ Theology, Philosophy and Social Science (Sociology and Political Science)

  • Structure of program and combination of subjects view under Protestant Religion B.A. and M.Ed.

  • Occupational goals: teaching profession for Gymnasium for the subject “Values and Norms” and one additional teaching subject; further work opportunities depending on the combination of subjects



Protestant Religion as a second teaching subject in the study program for Business and Human Resource Education (B.A. and M.Ed.)


  • 6 semesters (B.A.) plus 4 semesters (M.Ed.) Protestant Theology and Religious Education as a minor

  • Occupational goals: teaching profession at commercial vocational schools; for further information go to Business and Human Resource Education



Other B.A. and M.A. study programs (2 subjects):

Religious Studies B.A. (2 subjects) and M.A.


  • 6 semesters (B.A.) and 4 semesters (M.A.) Religious Studies

  • Combination with a second subject: Ethnology, Cultural Anthropology, Indian Studies, Arabic Studies, History or German Language and Literature Studies

  • Occupational goals: depending on the combination of subjects e.g. adult education, journalism or intercultural work

Minor: Evangelical Theology, Judaic Studies or Religious Studies (module packet)


  • In the field of professionalization of B.A. and M.A. at the Faculty of Philosophy

  • 5 semesters in-job training

  • Additional qualification for leadership positions in Diakonie (community care center) and church as well as Christian based profit- and non-profit organizations



Postgraduate studies: Doctoral program (Dr. theol)


  • Graduation from a theological study program is required (Master of Theology or equivalents)

  • Additional academic qualification for research and teaching at universities and extra-faculty research institutions
