Emy Sri Reskiyah

My name is Emy Sri Reskiyah. I was born in Makassar, Indonesia. In 2017, I have completed my undergraduate degree in International Relations from Pasundan University, Indonesia. Following the completion of my bachelor studies, I did an internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. I was assigned to the Centre for Policy Analysis and Development for European Region. Since then, I have realised my interest in the European Union in relation to their external relations with Southeast Asia especially my home country, Indonesia. I specifically chose to continue my studies in Poland and the Czech Republic due to my internship project in which I raised the topic of Indonesia’s new untapped market in Eastern Europe. In 2018, I became one of the awardees of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship for the Euroculture programme. As a member of the 2018-2020 Euroculture cohort, I spent my first and last semester in Palacky University and my second semester in Jagiellonian University. In my third semester, I took a research pathway at Göttingen University in Germany. In September 2020, I have officially graduated from the EM Euroculture programme, with an MA thesis titled Economic Diplomacy: a Comparative Study on Trade Between Visegrad Four and Indonesia.

Euroculture experience
The first time I came across the Euroculture programme on the internet was a coincidence. I had never heard of this programme before until I tried to look for master study programme abroad which still aligned to my study interests. When, I found out the Euroculture programme and looked at all the courses it covered, I was interested to apply as soon as possible. Unlike my first and second destination countries which had been decided since the beginning of my studies, as for my third semester, I initially planned to do an internship at the embassy of the Republic Indonesia in Hungary. However, due to the last-minute changes, I decided to go to Göttingen University and to take a research path instead. With the consideration that Göttingen offers elective courses related to my topic of interests in international trade that can help me in the process of writing my thesis, I was then convinced to go there. In the last semester, I returned to Olomouc as it felt already like home to me. One of the most memorable moments for me was during IP in 2019 in which the activity was an opportunity for all students from eight different universities to be involved in a project and work as a team also brought us closer.
Actually, at first, I was a little worried and imagined that I would only live in the Euroculture bubble. In fact, it was the other way around, throughout my study period, I was able to expand my network by participating in various classes, seminars, conferences, and workshops where I could meet and interact with students and professionals from various backgrounds. Besides that, the programme enabled me to pursue my interests which include language learning foreign languages, travelling and reading. Thus, the programme has helped to facilitate me in developing my interests and talents. On top of that, this programme has shaped me mentally and emotionally and has trained me to think critically and challenged my way of thinking in general. Last but not least, given the international exposure experience by being able to study and live side by side with people from different countries has truly enriched my experience and perspective.
