Projects / Research

  • 2020 – 2021: Analyzing RNA-Seq Data in schizophrenic individuals Comparing the RNA-Seq data in the BA46 region of the frontal cortex in different groupings, considering gender (male or female), hemisphere (left and right) and diagnosis (schizophrenia or control)
  • 2021: An Investigation of the relationship between extroversion and brain laterality Correlational study between brain laterality (difference of voxel activation in left and right hemisphere) and extroversion (measured as a part of the NEO Five Factor Inventory) on Human Connectome Project 1200 Subject data
  • 2020 – 2021: A Comparison of brain laterality between genetically high-risk and low-risk schizophrenia individuals; Comparison of brain laterality (difference of voxel activation in left and right hemispheres) during language task between high-risk (healthy individuals, who have schizophrenic parent/parents) and low-risk (healthy individuals, who do not have healthy parents)
  • 2015: Taking control of Cockroach's movement by imitating its nervous system Receiving a signal from cockroach's ganglion while stimulating its tactile spines on legs and attempting to generate a similar signal and sending it to the ganglions.

SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

I am interested in studying mental disorders, since they have such a large impact people’s quality of life and the amount, to which they affect people's perception of the world amazes me. These Research aid us in not only developing novel diagnostic tools, but also creating new treatment methods and hopefully one day, cures.
I find multimodal approaches very helpful and effective. Either both biological approaches, or biological and imaging. I also believe research on the molecular and genetic basis of diseases are interesting and essential, since only with a detailed understanding we may be able to develop medications that are capable of curing the impairment rather than just controlling and palliating the symptoms. We may further be able to detect new trait markers in order to develop diagnostic tools and create personalized treatment.
