Plenary Sessions





The opening ceremony of the conference “Knowledge and Education in Classical Islam” will take place on October 1 from 11.00 am to 1.10 pm at the Conference Hall in the historical building of the Göttingen State and University Library (Papendiek 14, 37073 Göttingen).

The conveners of the conference are very pleased that His Excellency, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Professor Dr. Ali Jumaa, has accepted the invitation to attend this ceremony and address the conference participants with an official word of welcome.
The academic program of the conference will be opened by distinguished speaker Professor Emerita Dr. Wadad Kadi (University of Chicago, USA) who will deliver a keynote address entitled The Humanities through Islamic Eyes: The Beginnings.

During the plenary session on the second day, scheduled for 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, Professor Dr. Ali Shaban (Al-Azhar University) will address the conference with a word of welcome.
The academic program will be continued by Professor Dr. Peter Heath (Chancellor, American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates) who will speak in his keynote address about The Role of Classical Knowledge and Education in Modern Arab Higher Education.
