Dr. Seda Canpolat

Lector

I joined the SEP’s language division in October 2016 after studying English and Media Studies in Mainz and Dublin, and completing my PhD in London. Having taught in London, Paderborn and Dublin, as well as having gained some experience as a freelance translator along the way, I now teach a range of courses both for BA and MA students at Göttingen.
I enjoy teaching translation (German-English) in particular. The exploration of various genres and the close look that we take at the intricacies of each language, along with questions of “(un)translatability”, make translation a challenging yet worthwhile pursuit.
During my studies abroad and a sabbatical in Dublin, I developed a keen interest in Irish history, especially of the 20th century. My other interests include postcolonial fiction, Muslim women’s writing, and the short story as a genre.
As a keen language learner myself, I aim to create a positive and welcoming learning environment and hope to spread my enthusiasm for languages to my students.
