Doctoral dissertation
British-German knowledge transfer over the period of the personal union using the example of Göttingen University
In the 18th and 19th century Great Britain played a leading part in the world - not only politically but also in the sciences. Göttingen University, founded in 1737, was an important centre for the reception and spreading of British scholarship in Germany. The doctoral dissertation project addresses both the knowledge transfer through institutions (e.g. the university library and the Academy of Sciences and Humanities) and semi-institutional transfer practices (e.g. the translation of scientific works by daughters of professors and book imports by university booksellers).
