Press release: Göttingen's popularity for students grows

No. 152 - 24.10.2022

Proportion of international students at the University of Göttingen continues to rise

At the beginning of the winter semester 2022, 4,831 new students enrolled at the University of Göttingen. Almost 3,459 of these have enrolled in their first university semester at a German university. This means that the total number of first-time enrolments has again risen slightly compared to the previous year. The provisional total number of students is currently 28,155, and up to 28,500 students are expected during the course of the semester. Again, the proportion of international students has risen: this time to over 15 percent.

"We warmly welcome all our students and especially all the new enrolments for the winter semester 2022," says University President Professor Metin Tolan. "The high number of first-time enrolments confirms the great interest in the University of Göttingen’s popular programmes."

The University recorded the highest number of new enrolments in the first semester in the state examination programme in Law with 346 students, as well as in the Bachelor's programmes in Business Administration with 260 students, Agricultural Sciences with 194 students and Forest Sciences with 182 students. In addition, the University managed to maintain the previous year's number of enrolments in the natural sciences.
