Goal 16 – Peace, justice and strong institutions

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

All forms of violence and related death rate should be reduced drastically everywhere. Abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children must be eradicated. The rule of law at the national and international levels as well as equal access to justice for all must be promoted. Apart from that, illegal financial and arms flows, corruption and bribery must be reduced. Effective, accountable and transparent institutions and responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making are necessary. Participation of developing countries in global contexts should be increased. All human beings must have a legal identity. Public access to information must be ensured, and fundamental freedoms are to be protected.
In doing so, national institutions should be supported in their combat against violence, terrorism and crime, and in enforcing non-discriminatory laws and policies for sustainable development.*
