SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

I want to focus on understanding the structural and dynamic vulnerabilities in the cell which can lead to degenerative disease conditions as well as the factors, which allow the activation of certain sets of genes to increase the disposition of an individual towards a certain set of diseases. My aim is to uncover the major regulation behind these changes in the cell to possibly prevent or even stall the onset of the disease if genetic markers can be identified. I hope that the experience and education that I will acquire during my graduate studies will enable me to work towards understanding not only disease mechanisms but also how to treat them while maintaining the maximum possible quality of life for the affected individuals.
