SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

My current interests lie in cell biology and biochemistry especially on how findings in these areas can be used to answer important questions in the context of human physiology. In the vast realms of biology, there are many gripping mysteries that have yet to be unravelled and many challenges yet to be overcome. I am interested in one such challenge: investigating the aetiologies behind chronic diseases. For instance, what are the underlying conditions that must be present for an individual to become susceptible to Grave's disease? Or, since it is now known that the microbiota greatly influences host health, in precisely what ways does diet shape our gut microbiota and, therefore, control our risk of developing systemic ailments like rheumatoid arthritis? These are some of the questions that motivate me, and I hope my research at Göttingen can help towards answering these questions.
