SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

My research interests lie in the areas of psychopharmacology and affective neuroscience. I am particularly interested in understanding the neurobiological mechanisms of action of psychedelics (psilocybin, MDMA, ibogaine etc.), their impact on brain epigenetics and synaptic plasticity, and how these findings can be applied for therapeutic use of these substances in treatment of mental disorders, such as depression, PTSD and drug abuse. I also find altered states of consciousness an underestimated field of research, which could bring better understanding of perception, memory, emotions and reasoning, and how consciousness does emerge from interactions between neurons.
