University of Göttingen hosts the second ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning conference

More than 200 guests from nine European universities met in Göttingen from 16th to 18th November for an international scientific conference on teaching and learning. Under the banner of Diversity and Co-Creation in Higher Education – inclusive approaches on-campus and online students, researchers, and teachers discussed and exchanged within the framework of the conference. “With the second ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference, we have established a new tradition for ENLIGHT.” said Prof. Metin Tolan, President of University of Göttingen at the opening ceremony in the Aula am Wilhelmsplatz..

ENLIGHT is a European university network, in which University of Göttingen works closely with eight other universities from Northern, Western, Eastern and Southern Europe. The network aims to advance the transformation of European higher education through joint innovations in education and research, and to promote sustainable development and social engagement. The focus is on topics such as energy and the circular economy, digitalization, health, social inequality and climate change. Students, PhD students, teachers and researchers from all nine universities meet each year at the Teaching & Learning Conference to discuss the challenges and developments of higher education teaching in Europe based on a focus theme. The first ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference was hosted by Ghent University last year, and the third conference will be held in Bordeaux in 2023.

Prof. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, academic project lead and chair of the ENLIGHT directors board, considers the conference as a remarkable success. “We are very pleased that many highly interesting and sustainable cooperation projects were initiated at the conference. A special thanks goes to the students and the ENLIGHT Student Network. Their strong commitment, curiosity and willingness to discuss contributed significantly to the collaborative working atmosphere and the success of the conference.”

Under the academic lead of Prof. Andrea Bührmann, the guests could exchange and engage in dialogue about the issue of diversity and inclusion in higher education, they could connect and plan new projects together. One of the conference’s highlights was the presentation of the Teaching & Learning Award by students of the ENLIGHT Student Network. The award honors outstanding courses with a particularly innovative teaching approach. This year's winner was a summer course for medical students at Uppsala University. In the course, they used game design to develop solutions to real problems and issues from the healthcare sector.
