SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

I am fascinated by the biochemical diversity in nature. This makes me interested in biochemical possibilities and limits. By “biochemical possibilities and limits”, I mean “what is biochemically possible while sustaining life”. There might be unknown enzymes/pathways with functions and reaction mechanisms that we have never thought of (especially in microbial dark matter) or biomolecules with very interesting non-canonical chemistry. On the other hand, it might also be possible to design such enzymes and biomolecules. Regarding my interest, I aim to do research at the intersection of biochemistry, structural biology, computational biology, evolutionary biology, and synthetic biology. I also have a developing interest in the origin of life research.
