On June 21, 2025 the Göttingen Campus hosted the 6th Night of Science. The idea of the event is to showcase research & methods, to engage local community and to promote interest in science.
Together with Köster Lab and Betz Lab we presented several exhibits about cell physics, demonstrated the qualities of soft matter and let our visitors build a microscope of LEGO bricks.
We explained what constitutes soft matter and invited the visitors to participate in experiments in which they realized that something can be solid and liquid at the same time. We made gel beads and worms from ice tea
and threw a disco party for the corn starch samples.
We used cells to recreate a heart muscle in a petri dish and made it beat rhythmically. Our brave visitors could activate the muscle by pressing a button.
It was fun to be part of the 2025 edition of Nacht des Wissens. Thanks to the organizers, lab members and visitors who participated in our experiments through out this night!
