Short Biography

  • 1960-1965 Studies in Maths (major), Economics, Business Administration and Law (minors) at the University of Hamburg; 1968 Ph.D. at the University of Zürich
  • 1966-1969 Assistant to the Board at Eos Life Insurance Company in Düsseldorf
  • 1969-1975 Chief Actuary at Gothaer Insurance Company in Göttingen
  • 1975-2002 Member of the Board at Gothaer Insurance Company with Focus on Life Policy (main focus), Industrial Engineering, Marketing, Accounting and Sales. At the same time member of various committees of the insurance association (GDV)
  • 1995-2003 Chairman of the German Actuarial Association, participation in international committees of the actuaries, for example, as a member of the executive committee of the International Actuary Association (IAA) and as German delegate at the Groupe Consultatif d'Européenne (European Actuary Association)
  • 1997-2007 Member of the Insurance Advisory Board of the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin)
  • Since 2003 one of the directors of the German Actuarial Academy
  • Since 2003 Founder and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the European Actuarial Academy GmbH (EAA)
  • Since 1995 honorary professor for Insurance Economics at the University of Göttingen
