A11 High-precision numerical simulation of nonradial nonlinear stellar pulsations

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Glatzel, Prof. Dr. Gert Lube

The development of a 3D numerical method suitable to follow nonradial stellar instabilities into the nonlinear regime and thus to determine the final fate of unstable stars (finite amplitude pulsations, pulsationally driven winds and mass loss) is the objective of the proposed project. Simulations of stellar instabilities require extremely high precision which can be achieved only, if the numerical scheme used satisfies the physical conservation laws intrinsically.
