Conferral of honorary doctorates

On 17 July 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of Göttingen hosted an honorary doctorate (Dr. iur. h.c.) ceremony in the auditorium at Wilhelmsplatz. Professor István Varga, Chair of Civil Procedure Law and Head of the Department of Civil Procedure Law at the ELTE University of Budapest, and Professor Pál Sonnevend, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the ELTE University of Budapest, were honoured.

With this award, the faculty honoured two outstanding people who had rendered outstanding services to jurisprudence and legal education. The award was part of a tradition of rare honorary doctorates, which were last awarded in 2020, 2014 and 2009.
