Description of the degree program
The Master of Education degree program for upper secondary level teaching (Gymnasium) focuses on theories, methods, and projects of empirical research into teaching and schools. The program is closely linked to the Center for Empirical Research into Teaching and Schools (ZeUS). The program of study has set itself the objective of providing enhanced support to young researchers in empirical research on teaching and schools and those in subject didactics. One unique feature of the degree program lies in the close connection between teaching and empirical research.
In detail, the degree program comprises the following areas of competence and credit points: 50 C for competency development in the subjects / subject didactics, 36 C for competency development in the educational sciences, 8 C for two internships in subject didactics in the two teaching subjects, whereby one of the internships may be a research internship, 6 C for the master’s module, and 20 C for the master’s thesis.
Successful completion of the degree program entitles the graduate to enter the preparatory phase of teacher training for the upper secondary level (Gymnasium).
Applications should be submitted to the Coordination Office for Teacher Training in the Center for Empirical Research into Teaching and Schools (ZeUS) in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Applicants whose final grade in the bachelor’s degree was lower than 2.5 are required to pass an additional oral exam.
