SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

To me, one of the most intriguing peculiarities of the brain is the information processing via neurotransmitters through which relatively simple chemical substances control complex cognitive processes like learning or emotions. The ability of the brain to maintain memory over years although the biological molecules involved have a much shorter lifespan fascinates me. In addition, I am interested in pathological conditions of the brain including neurodegenerative diseases and changes in neuroplasticity due to drug abuse. I would like to help extending the knowledge in one of these fields ultimately aiming at a better treatment for the affected people.
