Accommodation for Students at the University

If you plan to study in Göttingen, it is advisable to find accommodation as early as possible if you want to move at the start of a semester. A large number of new students from outside the city and those students changing their course of studies flood the accommodation market in April and October and result in large queues outside shared apartments and landlords' offices. And as always: the early bird catches the worm.

The Göttingen Studentenwerk (Student Union) has approx. 4,500 places of residence available. 15 percent of our students could live there. You can already add your name to the waiting list - without obligation - for a place in one of the halls of residence (dormitories) run by the Studentenwerk before you start your studies. It is not necessary to have already applied or enrolled for a course of studies at the University of Göttingen at this stage.

Students who register their main permanent residence in Göttingen also benefit from the "Aktion Heimspiel" (home match campaign). It enables students in Göttingen to benefit from around 130 discounts and perks offered by all of the most important facilities and sectors of the student cultural scene in Göttingen.
