SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS
To understand how the organization of living things makes them so distinct from non-living matter, I want to learn more about cell signalling and regulatory mechanisms by which organisms can respond to their surroundings and maintain their high degree of order. At the moment, I am particularly intrigued by the regulation of and communication with endosymbiotic organelles in eukaryotes. A deep understanding of the relationships cells have with their chloroplasts and mitochondria could help us understand emergent properties of life in general. I am still in the phase of discovering new interests and aim to broaden my horizon in the following years to be able to ask new important questions.
