Short description
The programme builds upon the foundation of a successfully completed degree in law from a university abroad. Its aim is for students to master the fundaments of German law, to develop the skills to conduct legal work according to the methods that are common in this field and to treat an area of law in-depth in a master thesis.
With the support of the supervisor (a professor or lecturer of the Faculty) a curriculum is created which must meet the following requirements:

  • 33 C in law lectures and seminars,
  • 6 C in the area of professionalization (key skills, such as mediation, negotiation, foreign language courses, German courses),
  • 21 C for the master thesis.

For admission to the master thesis, students must have passed examinations in required and optional modules, achieving at least 24 C:

  • 6 C in the required module "German Legal Terminology and Legal Working Methods"
  • At least 15 C in basic and advanced modules. Here the student must attend courses and pass examinations, choosing at least two out of the four areas of Civil Law, Public Law, Criminal Law and Principles of Law (such as Legal History, Constitutional History, Political Science, Philosophy of Law).

  • The programme ends with a five-month master thesis in German language. Upon the student's request and mutual agreement between the student and the supervisor, the thesis may be written in another language, provided that the topic is of international interest.
