Newspapers
The local newspaper is the Göttinger Tageblatt. There are many nation-wide newspapers like the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Süddeutsche, the Welt, the Frankfurter Rundschau, and the TAZ. All newspapers can be purchased in shops or they can be subscribed to at special student rates. Free city magazines may be picked up in bars, pubs, cafés, the Mensa and in some shops; they are mostly used for their events sections. The most well known are Trends and Fun and Stadtmagazin 37. There are also newspapers "Extra Tip" and "Blick" which are distributed free of charge and provide information about special sales, other occasions and apartments for rent. The newspaper store Tonollo and the bookstore at the train station have a good selection of foreign language newspapers. You may read newspapers free of charge in the reading room of the University Library (Platz der Göttinger Sieben 1), the reading room of the Studentenwerk (Platz der Göttinger Sieben 4) and in the Göttingen public library (Gotmarstr. 8). Radio and TV
In Germany radios and TVs must be registered with the GEZ (national agency for TV and radio licenses). Student discounts are possible. Your monthly payment supports public television and radio.

Libraries
Aside from the libraries within the University and other research institutes, Göttingen has a public library with branches in the various parts of the city. There is a yearly membership fee of about Euro. The public library carries a large selection of international novels and books.
