SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

Epigenetic modifications lead to altered gene expression and thus a varied phenotype. This is something that makes me curious, especially epigenetic modifications that alter the gene expression of neuronal cells and may in some manner contribute to neuronal plasticity. An understanding of neurogenetics, the receptors and cascades involved in altering gene expression, would aid in the designing of therapeutics for various neurological disorders. In the course of my masters, I would like to enhance my knowledge of the various mechanisms governing molecular genetics and explore the plethora of subjects that the program offers.
