Notes on applying for a scholarship programme

You should generally plan to begin preparing for your stay abroad at least one and a half years prior to departure.

For individually organized studies abroad you must apply, enrol and keep the local application and enrolment deadlines yourself, independently of the award of a scholarship.

The application deadlines of the DAAD differ according to target country and scholarship programme and are set up to one year before studies abroad begin.

For certain countries, you only have the possibility to begin your stay in the winter semester.

For individually organized stays abroad, every application must include a description of your study plan at the host university or an exact project description for scholarships.

A letter of recommendation from several lecturers is required.

Please refer to the brochure „Förderungsmöglichkeiten für Deutsche“ (Support possibilities for Germans) for detailed application formalities as well as the homepage of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
