International Student Symposium,
University of Glasgow, 2-3 December 2011

The Central and East European Studies (CEES) at the University of Glasgow are pleased to announce a second international student symposium on Estonian society, history and culture. The first international student symposium was held in 2008 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Estonian Republic and was very successful. You can see more at: http://www.gla.ac.uk/centres/crcees/announce/estoniaconf08review.html

The aim of this symposium is to bring together those undergraduate and postgraduate students abroad who are studying Estonian language and/or culture, also students of Estonian origin, as well as students from Estonian HEI-s to give them possibilities to meet and learn from each other.

Students are hereby invited to submit paper proposals dealing with any of the following aspects of Estonian politics, society and culture, past or present:

• aspects of identity and culture
• economic and social transformation
• political transformation and international relations
• literary, cinematic and cultural development
• language

The attendance fee is £ 20 which includes tea and coffee, lunch and symposium materials. Attendance is free for anyone giving a paper (15 min oral presentation or poster presentation), and for staff and students of CEES and its CRCEES partner institutions.
