Decentralized quality management at the Faculty of Biology and Psychology

What is it all about?

The degree programs are examined and evaluated in detail in regular quality rounds. All those involved in the degree programs (teaching staff, students, administration) are given the opportunity to discuss the degree program, its quality and its development prospects, work together on challenges and develop recommendations for action. External students and experts are also regularly involved in this process.

What does this have to do with me?

The quality rounds offer the best opportunity to actively help shape the study conditions for you and future generations of students. Here you will find short videos that explain quality management at the University of Göttingen and the quality rounds.

How does the process work at the Faculty?

The Faculty's degree programs have been divided into 4 clusters in terms of content.

  • Cluster 1 (Biology): BSc Biology / BSc Biochemistry / 2-Subject-BA Biology / MSc Developmental, Neural, and Behavioral Biology / MSc Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry / MSc Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
  • Cluster 2 (Biodiversity): BSc Biological Diversity and Ecology / MSc Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution / M.Sc. International Nature Conservation / PhD Biodiversity and Ecology
  • Cluster 3 (Doctoral programs): MSc/PhD Molecular Biology / MSc/PhD Neurosciences / GGNB doctoral programs
  • Cluster 4 (Psychology) : BSc Psychology / MSc Psychology / PhD Behavior and Cognition / MSc Clinical Psycology and Psychotherapy

For each of these clusters, a quality round table is held every 2 years, in which a several criteria of the catalogue are discussed. Thus, within a 6-year cycle, all criteria are considered and discussed at least once. A cycle ends with a central evaluation round in which external experts are also involved.

Each quality round is prepared and followed up by an organisational team, in which students and teachers (university lecturers and academic staff) of the degree programmes of the respective cluster as well as staff of the Office of Studies are involved. All teachers and students of the respective degree programmes, the staff of the Office of Studies as well as other internal and external stakeholders are invited to the actual discussion panel. Here, the topics and criteria prepared by the organisational team are discussed with all participants.

Afterwards, the outcomes of the quality round tables are reported to the Study Commission and the Faculty Council. These formally decide on the implementation of the measures and ensure the cross-faculty control of the quality management system.
