IT – easier than ever
Online course on information technology„Data Literacy“, „Computational Thinking“ und „Artificial Intelligence“ – often heard catch words, but not always understandable? No problem! After completing this online course, you will be familiar with the basic principles and processes of information technology and will be able to familiarise yourself with in-depth or subject-specific methods and tools of your studies. All aspects and concepts are taught using simple examples.
What's the course about? The introductory chapter clarifies basic terms such as „digitisation”, „data” and „information”. At the end of the chapter, you will find tips on where to get help if you are stuck in the IT jungle. In the second chapter you will learn more about what data is and how it is linked in a database so that it can be analysed and processed further. The third chapter deals with how the work on data can be organised in a team. The focus is on the secure storage of data and files.
The fourth chapter deals with how algorithms can be used to solve problems step-by-step and effectively. The individual steps can be executed automatically by a computer in the form of commands. In order for the machine to execute the commands accurately, the algorithm must be translated into a programming language or full-fledged software, as explained in chapter 5. The concluding chapter discusses the opportunities and risks of a digitised society. How can you protect your personal data without restricting yourself too much? How can we use artificial intelligence techniques without giving up too much control?
How does the course work? The course is divided into six chapters. The individual chapters have an average length of 20-30 minutes. The learning content is conveyed with videos, graphics and short texts and consolidated playfully through various quizzes. The actual learning process, i.e. sequence, pace and content depth, can be arranged by the learners themselves. Either all chapters can be completed one after the other or individual contents can be explored. At the end of the course it is possible to take a final test and receive confirmation of participation.
Where do you find the course? The course is integrated into StudIP as an ILIAS learning module and can be found there under university offers for self-study. The course is also available in OpenILIAS for non-members of the University of Göttingen and can be re-used under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
