Strategic career development via research funding

Career development through research funding – finding your own way

Researchers are increasingly faced with expectations to raise third party funds if they want to pursue a successful research career. Yet, applying for third party funds is not an end in itself and could even be detrimental to research careers, if disconnected from own scientific or life plans or scientific goals. This coaching is, thus, based on an entirely different approach by focusing on the past experiences and future plans of the participants. It aims at clarifying which kinds of funding opportunities are suitable for the participants? respective purposes and at giving feedback on their projects from a reviewer?s point of view.

Elements:
Development of a short-, middle- and long-term funding strategy with consideration of individual or institutional goals
Feedback to the participants? CV and grant summary

Preparation:
The participants decide themselves on the agenda of the coaching sessions. They are asked to provide their CVs before the coaching and may also prepare written questions or con-cerns as well as a grant summary of max. 2 pages, if they so wish.
In order to allow for an appropriate preparation of the coaching sessions, all documents need to be submitted electronically 14 days before the coaching sessions.
