Molecular Beam Surface Scattering of Vibrationally Excited Molecules

We study energy transfer processes of vibrationally excited molecules scattering off of different surfaces. Laser spectroscopy based state-resolved detection methods allow us to elucidate energy dissipation pathways at surfaces in high detail. For the experiments, we combine high-resolution laser spectroscopy with molecular beam surface scattering experiments. The figure shows the experimental apparatus.

Experimental Setup:

Typical experiment: we produce a molecular beam in a pulsed nozzle. Molecules can be excited prior to surface interaction. We use high-resolution laser spectroscopy to identify quantum states of scattered molecules.
