In this day and age, higher education institutions are expected to provide multiperspective and global education and equip students with 21st Century skills. As academics we face the challenge of integrating such outcomes in our courses. To this end, it is important that we are supported in the endeavour of offering an internationalised curriculum that caters for such goals. In this hands-on workshop, we will explore different approaches and rationales of internationalisation which will provide a framework for participants to map and share their practices. The programme logic model will be applied to curriculum design under the principle of constructive alignment and in the context of an internationalised curriculum in which the focus is on internationalising learning outcomes. Finally, we will reflect on the didactics of the international classroom and identify strategies which can be applied to capitalise on culturally diverse groups.
Participants are advised to take the syllabus/guide of a module/course they teach to the workshop.

The learning outcomes of this workshop will be:

  • Identify main definitions and approaches to internationalisation
  • Apply those to own teaching practice
  • Formulate internationalised learning outcomes
  • Adapt your teaching style and methods to accommodate culturally diverse groups of students from different (educational) backgrounds

Used methods:
This workshop will use a combination of trainer input and different interactive methods and tools that require individual reflection as well as group discussions and interaction.

Claudia Bulnes: is a lecturer of Spanish and an International Policy Advisor at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS). In her professional career at the degree programme of European Studies, Claudia has performed in key coordinating roles ranging from international student coordinator, programme coordinator and mobility coordinator. She is one of the co-developers of a conceptual model (Intercultureality) which supports degree programmes in mapping internationalisation in their curricula. In her current role, she supports programmes on internationalisation of the curriculum and co­curriculum. Being an experienced practitioner of internationalisation, she has given presentations at, among others, AIEC (2015), AIEA (2016), EAIE (2016, 2018) and Businet (2019). Claudia holds a degree in Teaching English and Spanish as a Foreign Language from the University of Oviedo and the University of Antonio de Nebrija in Spain.
