Course Announcement: Crafting Competitive DFG Research Proposals
The Department of Research and Transfer Services is offering a grant writing course designed to help early-career researchers transform their research ideas into competitive proposals for the German Research Foundation (DFG).
🌍 Language: The course will be conducted in English, but proposals may be written in English or German.
Course Content :
- How to navigate the DFG funding landscape and understand proposal structures.
- How to interpret DFG guidelines, templates and evaluation criteria.
- How to improve your style and strategic approach to grant writing.
- How to draft core proposal sections as well as plans, budgets, data management, sustainability and diversity.
- How to integrate AI tools strategically into your writing process.
- How to evaluate proposals in small peer-feedback groups.
Who can participate:
The course is open to final-year doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines at the University of Göttingen (excluding UMG). You need to have a well-defined research idea and be committed to active participation. This involves regular attendance and an active role in small working groups.

️When: Thursdays,14:15 –15:45. Start: 6 November 2025 – End: 12 February 2026
(Winter break: 5 December 2025 - 7 January 2026)
Where: Seminar room 1.310, 1st Floor, Von-Siebold-Straße 4, Göttingen
Cost: Free of charge
Registration deadline: Monday, 7 July 2025 (Maximum of 20 participants)
Notification of acceptance: Monday, 14 July 2025
Credits: No academic credits, Certificate available upon request
