At the Faculty of Geosciences and Geography of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen two time-limited positions (BAT I b) for young academics, that will lead to an appointment as
Junior Professor
are to be appointed as soon as possible in the fields of:
1. Geochemistry
The successful candidate should develop and apply modern TIMS U-series analyses in earth sciences. The focus should lie on the rates of rockforming processes in igneous systems. Experience in the analytical methods of U-series isotope geochemistry and their application is therefore required. Cooperation is also expected in a newly planned EU network project on the study of recent volcano-magma chamber systems with the title "Processes and timescales of magma evolution in volcanic systems". The successful candidate will develop her/his own research group and be successful in attracting soft money funding.
In addition, we also expect experience and willingness to teach within the framework of the existing geoscience curriculum.
2. Physical Geography
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research field in regional and comparative studies in soil science. The focus in this field should be on the compositional dynamics and modelling of transport processes in upper soil from a variety of climatic and ecological regions. Modelling should include the role of C-fixation within the framework of „Global Change“. As such, the „Juniorprofessor“ should develop a research team directed at the study of the process and rates of carbon fixation and transfer between reservoirs in order to provide scenarios. The successful candidate should also develop his/her own research field and working group.
In addition, we also expect experience and willingness to teach within the framework of the existing curriculum.
Because of their underrepresentation in many departments at the University of Göttingen, applications from women are especially welcome and, all other factors being equal, will be given special consideration in these fields.
Physically challenged applicants will likewise be given priority over equally qualified, non-physically challenged applicants.
Applications with curriculum vitae, a description of teaching and research experience, including a publication list, reprints of the most important publications and a statement of future research plans should be sent to the following address by January 3, 2002:
