SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

I have a strong interest in factors that regulate the cell cycle, determine cell differentiation and finally control apoptosis. Understanding these cellular programs in detail will be the key to open up new opportunities in medicine and biotechnology. Moreover, I am interested in molecular structural biology and the molecular mechanisms of catalysis. Elucidating the structure of macromolecular complexes and relating the structure to their function is necessary in order to influence cellular processes very specifically. Finally, my curiosity includes infection biology and medical microbiology. Apart from the aspect of pathogenicity, there is an exciting scientific field of using e.g. viruses for therapeutic purposes. In the course of the master' s program I would like to expand my knowledge in the aforementioned topics. The experience I gain will allow me to make a well-informed decision on the topic that I would like to focus on in my scientific career.
