Workshop 1: Qualitative Social Research – Combining and Triangulating Data and Methods

Target group: Beginners
Language: English
Available seats: 12

Workshop description:
Qualitative social research is popular in many fields and disciplines. In order to analyse complex social problems, data and methods are increasingly combined and triangulated - within the qualitative paradigm or also in combination with quantitative social research. This workshop provides an introduction to the principles of qualitative social research and to different strategies of collecting and analysing qualitative data, for example, qualitative interviews, participant observation, qualitative text and discourse analysis. The workshop focuses on the desires and interests of the participants. Therefore, all participants should provide the lecturer in advance with a short abstract of their PhD project focussing on their methodological approach and questions; and, if interested, suggest some data material for the workshop. We’ll apply the knowledge about the qualitative strategies in exercises and discuss in particular the possibilities of triangulating data and methods.
Necessary literature will be provided via e-mail.
