Workshops & Symposia - 2022
Data Simulation for linear models in R
Nov 1th-18th, 2022; Old lecture hall, German Primate Center
In this three-week workshop, Roger Mundy teaches how to simulate data in a framework of linear models. Simulated data has the advantage that the “truth” is known. Hence, one can compare what a model reveals with truth. The perhaps most well-known use of simulated data is 'power analysis', i.e. determining the probability of an analysis to reveal significance, given a certain effect and sample size, an alpha level, and a test. However, it can also be used to test, for instance, if a method is working as planned, how an analysis behaves if assumptions are violated, or to estimate the width of confidence intervals.
The workshop is organised in collaboration with the Leibniz ScienceCampus Primate Cognition.

Social Curiosity
Oct 6th-7th, 2022
The last decades have seen a resurgence of interest in understanding how individuals actively solicit information about events and entities in the world around them. This work typically characterises the individual as a "lone scientist", intrinsically motivated to explore the world in order to garner more information. However, humans and nonhuman primates are rarely detached from the sociocultural contexts they live in and even very young children have been shown to interact with their social partners and make inferences about their thoughts and beliefs. Such interactions are likely to influence how we explore the world. This workshop will bring together researchers aiming to understand the role of primate sociality in curiosity, bringing together varied perspectives across a range of formats, such as structured talks, podium discussions, flash talks and posters.

Linear Models and their application in R
Feb 14th - Mar 1st, 2022, Old lecture hall, German Primate Center
This three week workshop introduces linear models and their application for biostatistical analyses using R. Roger Mundry’s course is part-time lecture, part-time hands-on sessions. Participants learn various statistical models from simple regression to Generalized Linear Mixed Models, and how to visualize their data. A focus is laid on understanding model assumptions and diagnostics, and how to write up results for the methods and results sections of scientific papers.
Please note that registration is required. For details and a link to the registration form, please visit the workshop website.
The workshop is organised in collaboration with the Leibniz ScienceCampus Primate Cognition.
