IT Innovation Management by Matthias Kießling

IT Innovation Management
During the past 30 years, information technology (IT) has been the source of endless new possibilities and successful business innovations. Starting and moving well beyond the back office into the area of customers encompassing new products, processes and business models. In the beginning only used as support for the business, the potential of the IT function has meanwhile developed to an important driver of business innovations.

However, many IT organizations have lost their way in the past few years. Only 7% of CEOs view IT as a source of innovation and more than 42% of CIOs do not have budget for innovations. This situation demands reorientation of IT management. We perceive that nowadays an active IT Innovation Management in the company is essential. Therefore we apply the following research questions:

Our research questions

  • What are the characteristics of IT innovations?
  • How can an IT innovation management be implemented in the organizational structure?
  • How can an IT innovation management be measured and which methods and models have to be applied?

We are working on this topic closely together with our partner from Arthur D. Little
