Senate

The Senate is the University's highest academic body. All groups supporting the University (professors, Researchers, technical and administrative staff, students) elect their 13 voting representatives to this body, which also includes the members of the Presidential Board, the Deans, the full-time Equal Opportunities Officers and one member each of the staff representatives of the University and University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), one member of the doctoral student representatives and the Director of the State and University Library in an advisory capacity.

The Senate adopts the basic regulations and, in agreement with the Presidential Board, the development plan and the equal opportunities plan. It gives its opinion on all self-administration matters of fundamental importance. The Presidential Board takes part in the meetings and is obliged to provide information and be accountable to the Senate in matters of self-administration within the scope of its decision-making responsibilities.

Members of the Presidential Board are appointed or nominated by the Senate. The Senate is chaired by the President.
