Dr. Vlada Limic researches about complex stochastic structures and processes

(pug) The mathematician Dr. Vlada Limic, Research Director at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Strasbourg, has received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In the academic year 2017/2018, she is doing research at the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics of the University of Göttingen for one year. Her host is Prof. Dr. Anja Sturm, from of the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics at the University of Göttingen, who also nominated her for the award. The focus of the research collaborations with members of the Mathematics community in Göttingen is on stochastic models and processes describing interacting particle systems, complex stochastic structures and random graphs, in particular their asymptotic behavior, as well as on computational geometry and topology for data analysis.

The Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award honors Vlada Limic’s outstanding contributions in the area of probability theory with applications in the life and physical sciences. Vlada Limic is an internationally renowned expert in stochastic process theory. Her main contributions have been made in the area of exchangeable coalescent processes and reinforced random walks. Amongst other distinctions, she had received the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship. Furthermore, she has been noted for her service to the probability theory community, which included initiatives for good scientific practice.

Scientists and scholars from abroad, internationally renowned in their field, who completed their doctorates less than 18 years ago and who in future are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements which will have a seminal influence on their discipline beyond their immediate field of work, are eligible to be nominated for a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award.
