Pan-African basement in southern Libya

This project focuses on the composition and age of Pan-African basement rocks in southern Libya. We will investigate the timing, extent and duration of Pan-African magmatic and metamorphic activity. The Pan-African basement rocks are potential source lithologies for the Lower Palaeozoic siliciclastic sedimentary succession. The latter have already been investigated in regard of their provenance. A detailed analysis of the Pan-African basement is expected to give new insights into the source to sink relations for the central part of northern Gondwana in the early Palaeozoic.
