Site-specific adaptation by natural selection. A case study with lentil

PhD project Michael Ruland. Funded by the DFG. Cooperation mit Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition und Prof. Dittert, Abteilung Pflanzenernährung und Ertragsphysiologie.
The development of overall diversity and site-specific adaptation in on-farm management was investigated with three cultivars and at three farms. Main questions are:

  • Will natural selection lead to evolutionary processes already during ten generations?
  • Will a site-specific adaptation occur?
  • What is the significance of seed size for natural selection?
  • How will different water supply affect site-specific differentiation?
