Experimental animal reporting

Annual experimental animal reporting

The rule is that the number of animals used in each animal experiment project that is subject to mandatory authorisation, reporting and notification requirements must be reported to the competent veterinary office by the end of the year.

It is not the job of the Animal Welfare Officer to check whether the report on the number of animals required for your project has been submitted. If you do not submit a report, this constitutes a clear infringement of the applicable laws (German Regulation on the Reporting of Experimental Animals (VersTierMeldV), Directive 2010/63/EU on the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes, et alia). Of course, the Animal Welfare Officer will assist you in drafting your report.

For the report, please use the standardised form provided by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). Find further explanations and the standardised form here.

Please send your experimental animal report to the Animal Welfare Officer of Göttingen University (tierschutzbeauftragte@uni-goettingen.de) at the latest by 31 January of the respective following year. As of 1 January 2018, the Animal Welfare Officer summarises the forms completed by each of the responsible project leaders. That way, a collective transmission of the number of all experimental animals used by Göttingen University (excluding UMG) to the competent veterinary office can be made on time by the Animal Welfare Office.
