Sustainable Trout Aquaculture Intensification (SusTAIn)

The SusTAIn project was funded by the MWK of Lower Saxony and involves the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Göttingen, and the Institute of Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover. The work package addressed by our group deals with the study of genetic variability in trout with respect to adaptation to new protein sources in the diet. This is of great importance since fishmeal is still used in the diet of carnivorous fish such as trout. However, substitution with plant products or insects would allow a more sustainable trout production.
