PhD students and postdocs with children and employment contract at the university

As a researcher with an employment contract with the university, you are subject to all the regulations listed by the BMFSFJ in its family portal, unless you are an international researcher with a residence permit according to §16 or §18.

Maternity protection

In order for the university to be able to fulfil its duty of care as an employer, please report your pregnancy to your supervisor as early as possible. If your field of work and your dissertation are not identical, please also report your pregnancy via the functional address: mutterschutz@uni-goettingen.de.
If you are unsure about the extent to which your workplace/research poses a risk to you or your unborn child, you can contact your supervisor or the Klink id="586642">occupational medical service at any time. If necessary, you can also apply for a laboratory assistant if you are no longer allowed to carry out urgent tasks in the laboratory. Ask the Equal Opportunities Officer at your faculty.

Parental leave

You can apply for your parental leave via this form in MAP. If you would like to take leave from your doctorate at the same time, you can do this in eCampus. All relevant information on parental leave and a parental allowance calculator can be found in the Family Portal or in the original legal text of the
  • Fixed-term contracts for qualification (§ 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG)
  • So-called third-party funding (§ 2 Abs. 2 WissZeitVG)
  • Fixed-term contracts under the part-time and fixed-term act (e.g. teaching staff for special tasks)
  • Temporary civil service (junior professorships, tenure-track positions, temporary academic council)
