Projects / Research

I learnt various neuroimaging techniques whilst working in the lab led by Dr. Chun-yu Tse. I also studied the psychophysical properties of gentle affective touch for my undergraduate thesis under the guidance of Professor Annett Schirmer. After graduation, I worked under Professor Benjamin Thompson as a research assistant exploring non-invasive methods for improving vision in visually impaired populations using perceptual learning and neurostimulation.

SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

I am interested in neuroplasticity, the way neural structures rewire in response to sensory experiences. This change can be maladaptive (e.g. amblyopia or lazy eye) but could also be harnessed to enhance our perceptive abilities (e.g. perceptual learning). I would like to investigate how early-age abnormal visual experience impact neural development, how these abnormal structures undermine visual perception, potential interventions in adulthood that can rectify such impairments, and the induced changes in neural structures caused by such interventions that underlies recovery. In summary, I wish to help elucidate the mechanism of how alterations in neural circuits result in changes in visual functions.
