Art collection

Since 1966, the art collection has included paintings, drawings and prints on loan from the Federal Republic of Germany. To this end, the Federal Art Administration, in co-operation with the art collection, carries out provenance research and publishes the results in a public database.

Furthermore, provenance research plays a central role in the regular seminars on “Inventorying and Digitizing the Art Collection’s Holdings”.

Another important project is in the pipeline: a project to investigate the provenance of private collections acquired after 1945 is planned (Dumont 1966, Stechow 1980, Kritter 1986, Wille 1997), as no provenance checks were carried out at the time of acquisition.
